Malaysia Prepares to Build 3500 km Submarine Cable System

Malaysia Telecom TM and Malaysia Internet service providers TIME dotCom Bhd recently signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of 3500 kilometers undersea cable systems. According to reports, this submarine cable system is called the Sistem Kabel Rakyat 1 Malaysia (SKR1M), the initial design rate of 4Tbps, aimed at strengthening Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak Internet connection.
 
In December 30, 2014, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, MCMC, approved the submarine cable system project construction, and jointly implemented with Malaysia Telecom company.
 
Malaysia telecom company said that the construction of this submarine cable would help improve Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak case of Internet traffic congestion.
 
Up to now, the Malaysian Telecom company already has more than 10 submarine cable systems, including a number of international submarine cable systems, optical total length of more than 100,000 miles.
