New York Plans to Build 420km HVDC Transmission Project

Recently, Empire State Connector engineering company has submitted a 320 kV HVDC transmission project plan which would be connected to upper New York State and New York City to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission FERC, and the engineering company was wholly-owned by the power grid company oneGRID Corp. and Forum Equity Partners.  

According to reports, the high voltage power transmission project with a total investment of about $15 million, and planned to connect the New York state zero emission power generation resources and New York City, to provide 1000 megawatts of clean power for New York City,  with a total length of about 420 km (260 miles).

Among them, the Erie Canal and Hudson River water adopted laying mode of underwater cable,

and the rest by underground cable , so the project would be have visual impact on the external environment.

The CEO of Empire State Connector, John Douglas said, "Now the world's eyes are looking at how New York will response to climate change and ensure economic development. Our high voltage direct current transmission project is helpful to help New York achieve the 2030 renewable energy electricity accounted for 50% of the grand goal."

In addition, the HVDC transmission project will create more than 500 construction jobs and 1200 indirect jobs during the construction period of 3-4 years. According to the plan, the project would be put into use in 2021.
