Number of visits: Date:1/12/2016 04:05:24

Recently, the Africa fiber optic network operator MainOne announced high-capacity Nigeria - Cameroon submarine cable systems have been built and put into operation.

This new submarine cable system would respond to the growing demand for reliable broadband connections in Cameroon, and become an important part of Cameroon's strategic plan to provide Internet connectivity to the public through the national broadband network.

With MainOne, Cameroon Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Huawei Marine Networks to reach a tripartite partnership, submarine cable started deployment in June 2015. Cameroon government provided the investment projects.

This 1100 km long submarine cable system, with six pairs of fiber optic group would deliver up 12.8Tbps capacity Cameroon’s broadband users, and would increase 40Gb capacity at the first day after putting into operation. This capacity increasing would increase the very low fixed broadband penetration in Cameroon. Cameroon's current fixed-line broadband was only 5%.
