Hainan Second Submarine Cable Will be Built Before the End of 2015

Recently, a senior manager of China Southern Power Grid Company said that the laying of the second submarine cable laid in the Qiongzhou Strait in south China would begin construction   by the end of this year, which would help ease the power shortage in Hainan Province.

This $ 3.3 billion undersea cable and the first 32-kilometer submarine cable is constructed in parallel. The first submarine cable connecting Hainan was the world's longest submarine cable, which was put into operation in 2009, mainly to transfer the surplus power of Guangdong Provincial Power Grid to Hainan Province.

The new submarine cable is expected to completed in 2017, which will connect the Gangcheng substation of Zhanjiang City in Guangdong to Fushan transformer substation in Hainan Chengmai County. Submarine cable daily transmission is about 300,000 kilowatts, with a total transmission capacity of 600,000 kilowatts.
